Doing What We Think

"My Sunday school teacher says we do what we think," said Ryan.  "Is that true?"  Dad thought for a moment.

"Let's check it out," he said.

Dad picked up the newspaper.  "Here's a story," he said.  "This man robbed a bank.  Was he thinking about God or money before he did that?"

Ryan laughed.  "That's easy," he said.  "Money."

Dad turned the pages.  "Here's another story," he said.  "A family lost everything when their house burned.  But a kind man raised a lot of money to help them.  Was he thinking more about this family or himself?"

     "The family," said Ryan.

Dad put the newspaper down.  "I heard Ryan yell at Jackie yesterday," he said.  "Ryan even called Jackie a bad name.  Was Ryan thinking about making Jackie happy?  Or was Ryan thinking only about what he wanted to do?"

Ryan looked at the floor.  He did not know that Dad had heard him.

"I think my Sunday school teacher is right," said Ryan.  "We do what we think."

"So what are you thinking now?" asked Dad.

"That I should ask Jackie to forgive me," said Ryan.

...Do you think he did what he was thinking?

The thoughts you

think are up to you.

What you think

is what you do!

Those who are pure

in their thinking are happy.

They will be with God.

  Matthew 5:8  (ICB, NCV)
